Participants must be 6 years to 12 years old when the program starts.
Students will participate in a variety of activities. This week we will study the wetlands! Students will learn about the plants in the wetlands, their impact on the habitat and how they are used by people today and throughout history. For example River Cane stabilizes river banks, filters runoff and provides homes and food for birds, rabbits, and wild turkeys. Historically it has been used to make fishing poles and weaved to make baskets and mats. We will also learn about the animals that call the wetlands home! On Creek Day we will study aquatic creatures and learn how to properly identify them using characteristic charts.
Our general schedule is to start in the classroom for a quick overview of the day, instruction and a "get to know you" game. Then outdoor activities follow (creek exploration, low ropes, hiking, science lesson). We go back to the camp building for lunch (students typically have a choice to eat in our yoga room or outside in our picnic area). After lunch we hike down Friendship Trail for Gaga Ball, yard games, or relaxing in the hammock forest (students have a choice during this time). We then return to the building for cool off with popsicles and a book that matches the days theme. We do an afternoon nature craft or STEM project before 3:00pm pick up.
